Green Places

After several decades away from painting, I returned to the work I first loved as a teenager. Today I paint primarily in oils and am largely self-taught.

I am drawn to landscapes and seascapes, where the natural world offers endless variety. Plants and trees provide an extraordinary range of shapes, textures, and colors that continually inspire my compositions. My goal is to create paintings that are both visually pleasing and quietly evocative, inviting the viewer’s imagination to wander through the scene.

Much of what I paint is influenced by the environment that surrounds my daily life. I live in a rural setting overlooking a pond alive with waterfowl, hawks, and eagles. The landscape of San Juan Island is a constant source of inspiration—its firs, madrones, oaks, rugged rock formations, and sweeping views of the sea. The island’s rocky terrain often finds its way into my work through the mountains, cliffs, and textured shorelines I depict.

Surrounded by an ever-changing ocean and a landscape rich with natural beauty, I find endless inspiration close to home. I have lived and worked on San Juan Island since 1994.
